Tutoring Service

Quick Introduction

You probably know, if your kid isn't motivated to learn, your option is either let them fail, or spend thousands on a private tutor to basically babysit them to make sure they keep on task. I offer a different solution.

First of all, I did alright, I scored top 1% or better on all those standardized tests, and got into a pretty good school. And didn't require someone to tutor me. Therefore, I will teach you my method of how to teach yourself to succeed, tailored to your specific situation. I sell motivation, therefore, in one session, I will sit down with you and your kid, and figure out what's holding them back, remove the problem(s), and you'll be on your way without having to spend $10,000+ across months of stress.

Is what I'm proposing sound impossible? Great, to set your mind at ease, here's my promise: We sit down, have a chat, and if you and your child's whole view on education doesn't change for the better after having met me, then you don't have to pay a cent. All it cost you was the time you spent talking to me. And you are the one that decides, if you aren't happy, don't pay.

If that sounds appealing to you, keep reading for additional information, like how to contact me and such. And if you know anyone that you think might be in need of my services, feel free to let them know.

Longer Introduction

What's the most straightforward way to get into an elite college in the United States?  Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's to have parents that already went. (Legacy students) Now, it's not because they bribed their kid in, instead, unlike "normal" people, they don't have to deal with confusing noise of, how to test prep, what's a good score, what classes should I take, what major should I choose... Those parents have been through it, and can offer their firsthand experience and provide tailored guidance to their kids to make sure they become the next doctors, lawyers, business leaders, just like them.

I got into Vanderbilt University not as a legacy student. My parents graciously paid for college testing preparation for me, met with college advisors, took me on tours, etc. And my public high school had plenty of college resources available for those that sought it. So, despite not being a legacy, its not quite fair to say "I got in the hard way".

But now that I've finished that process, and overall had a great time, I am happy to share my experiences with you, and give you that same informational edge, straight from someone who was just there.

I could also offer targeted educational assistance, but I probably wouldn't be much better than the established tutoring services. If you are interested after meeting me, we can work something out, but what makes my service unique is what I offer insight wise. In short, if you don't like my advice, its free. Read on for the details.

How My Tutoring Service Works/Costs

If reading this far, you are interested, then after texting me, and arranging a time, ideally we meet at a nearby restaurant.

You can choose the place, so therefore, I expect you buy your own food. I likely won't be eating since I'll be doing a lot of speaking, but if you want to be polite and get me something, that's your choice. Please note, I don't drink alcohol. Therefore, don't buy me a drink. If you want to drink alcohol at a "business meeting" with your child in attendance, you are an adult, and can make your own decisions. I'm not offended by alcohol, I just don't personally drink because I like having money instead.

Personally, I think family support is the most important part of a successful academic career, and what better place to chat with family than at a meal. If that's not your plan, basically if we can find a spot with a table that's relatively quiet, where conversations are allowed, it'll be fine. If someone from a different state referred you, I guess we could do a video call, but I think I would prefer face to face if that were feasible first.

There, I sit down with you all, and that's where I "figure it out". I'll either ask questions, or I'll listen, it will depend on the situation. I think I have a superhuman ability to "pay attention and read the room", hence why I'm making such bold claims about my abilities. After our chat, I will offer you tailored advice based on our conversation. If you think the advice is valuable, you pay whatever you think its worth. If you realized I just saved you tens of thousands in "babysitting costs", I would appreciate a small portion of that, for however long our conversation took, your call. And if you think my advice could have been read anywhere for free, then you are free to walk away and pay nothing, so long as your meal was paid for, and you leave me with documentation that you have decided to pay nothing, so I can square it away on my taxes and such.

You may be wondering, "aren't you scared to get scammed, what if I was super satisfied, but said I wasn't, and didn't pay?". Here's the thing, all it cost me was an hour or two where I work hard to inspire your kid, something I've literally done for free in the past. If you sit down with me, I'll offer you my best, and if you want to offer your worst in return, I go home a good person, and you live the rest of your life with the consequences of being an unbearably horrible person. I'm not the loser in this transaction, haha. Ideally, I make some money here, but if not, I've wasted more time on sillier things. This is a risk I'm willing to accept, and if you think the risk is also acceptable, then we can do business together.

Yes, I recognize that I didn't actually tell you precisely how much it costs. Just, "pay me what you want". If it REALLY concerns you, mention it before we meet and I'll give you a number. But if "paying what you want", makes sense to you, then go with that.

Payment Methods Accepted

I accept all major credit/debit cards, through a physical card reader from Square, compatible with tap to pay, chip read, and Apple or Google Pay. I can also send an email invoice processed by Chase Bank or Square, where you can enter your card details on your own device.

The above are the preferred methods as I can easily send an email receipt and we keep things official and my taxes are uncomplicated. Furthermore, I DO NOT charge a card transaction fee. I'll figure out the fees and the taxes, you just decide what you want to pay. And yes, for further incentive, if credit cards are your thing, this would allow you to keep the credit card miles or cash back that your preferred card provides.

I prefer not to accept cash, as I don't plan to offer change, but if you brought the exact amount I will take it. I have an extremely hard time trusting checks. Demonstrate you are very trustworthy and I could consider it. But since I literally accept cards with no fee, I don't see why you would want to make life difficult on purpose, in order to write a check you have to have a bank account, and all bank accounts include at minimum a debit card, which I accept.

I do not offer refunds. You pay after we are done speaking, and we can ensure payments/receipts are all perfect before leaving. But after we part ways, no refunds.
